Product Scout: Birch Paper Straws

Product Scout

Steven and I were in Paper Source yesterday picking up some paper tape, and we came across these great birch straws. They’re adorable, and would make a great addition to a holiday party. You can find them at Anthropologie (online only), or Paper Source (online + in stores).

Last year around Mother’s Day we found out we were moving to Boston, so we wanted to something extra special for our Moms and their Moms. Since Mother’s Day is around the corner, I thought I’d share a few details from the brunch we had last year.

We created a table covering with some paper, painted some old candlestick holders white, used glass milk jars as vases, created butter swirls with a cake decorator, baked some biscuits/muffins, cut up some fruit and set up a drink station on Eamesy’s hutch. You can tell he was exhausted after all the commotion.

Steven’s Grandmother is Bulgarian/German. So, every year for Easter we participate in a Bulgarian tradition called choukane s yaitsa or egg “fighting.” You tap an egg on your opponents egg, and the one left uncracked is the winner. Traditionally, the person who wins is supposed to have good health or luck for the year, but it’s just more of a game for us. After the cracking is over, you eat the eggs with a very sour (secret) family recipe. I lost this year, as usual.
